Measuring 300mm x 300mm this original Swastika Tail Insignia was clearly removed from a Me109, the two Dzuss type quick release fasteners being one of several on the tail fin on the 109 allowing easy removal of the inspection panel which gives access to control cables.
The reverse is profusely marked with VDM ( Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke AG.) appearing a number of times along with 0.5 which I assume reflects the thickness of the aluminium used.
Overall condition is very good with some scratching to the painted finish and light crazing from flexing. The two riveted reinforcing ribs have been trimmed down slightly, perhaps to allow to be displayed more easily.
The white border to the Swastika possibly suggests an earlier manufactured piece and although by 1944 the border was dropped, existing paint schemes continued in service. Scratched into the metal however is 1943
I have superimposed this actual piece on the outline of a 109 tail which demonstrates well the row of fasteners which release the inspection panel.
Sadly there is no history but I am happy to provided a written lifetime guarantee of authenticity if required.
I have included a picture of this panel framed. The frame is not included but does show how well it can be displayed
