Another from the superb collection of Long Range Desert Group items I will be listing is this 1939 dated other ranks peaked cap.
The focal point is of course the bronze LRDG badge, in excellent condition and sitting firmly in place on the hat band.
The Cap though is in itself interesting and absolutely typical of those the British army went to war in, in 1939 and of course, to North Africa. Khaki serge in construction it retains its original shape, and I can only find one small moth hole, on the right side of the peak and an even smaller one, above the right button on the hat band. The leather chinstrap remains supple an intact and is secured by two general service buttons. The are two enamel covered ventilation grommets to each side of the brim.
Inside, the oil cloth sweatband and lining are very good, the lining with a 1939 WD inspector’s stamp. The underside of the peak is green.
A rare Badge to an elite unit on a nice Cap.
