A very nice pair of Zeiss 7x50 U Boat Binoculars, part of a batch of 5250 produced between 1943-45.
Recently serviced and cleaned these have the scarce and enigmatic red lens coating which collectors believe to have been used on a trial basis although give the production date of these it is just as likely to have been a substitute brought about by shortages. There are no chips or cracks to the optics but mention was made during the service that there was some loss to the red coating, usually the result of unskilled cleaning in the past. They are in perfect collimation and now very useable.
They have the original smooth exterior finish showing just the right amount of service wear. The rubber armour is in generally good condition with some splits which I have tried to show in the images.
The right prism cover shows the Zeiss three letter code, magnification and the serial number, 63849.
Perfect for a U Boat display or recreational use.
