An intriguing Pocket Compass by the Francis Mfg. Co.
Contained in what appears to be a handmade mahogany case the Compass and case are both in very good working condition with some paint loss to the centre of the dial.
The underneath of the case carries the War Department Arrow and “FRANCIS. MFG. Co No 4367 1918”.
Whilst clearly made for the British military, the use of the abbreviation “MFG” strikes me as being American.
A well preserved an attractive artefact from the great war.
