A fully matching and really rather rare example of a 1940 dated S84/98 German Bayonet by J Mundlos
Complete with its original matching scabbard and 1938 dated leather frog, all components are in very good overall condition.
The Bayonet itself is notable for its lack of waffenampt stamps to the pommel. These Bayonets were manufactured commercially between 1937 and 1941 to fulfill Waffen SS or Police contracts where it seems the standard military inspection stamps were not required.
The grip or handle is in very good condition, the release button working smoothly and the Bakelite grip plates completely without damage. The blade is full length and without damage or signs of sharpening. The upper edge is date stamped 40, the ricasso with the serial number 7851 and Mundlos. The scabbard is also very good with one shallow bruise and with the matching serial number 7851, the reverse again with the maker’s name, Mundlos. Here the ball tip does have a WaA stamp.
Finally, the 1938 dated frog is very good with one of the aluminuim rivets missing.
