A good early example of a service used 1918 pattern RAF Other Ranks peaked Cap.
Determined by the lining to have been a private purchase item this Cap was tailor converted from an RN or RNAS Cap as at the time this one was sold, no alternative was yet available.
The upper portion of the cap is constructed in a heavy Khaki serge machine stitched to the original blue wool of the body just above the mohair hat band. I can find only one minor moth hole to the serge.
The airman’s badge is in place but has perhaps been reapplied and sits above the narrow leather chinstrap.
The peak or visor has a green underside and is in very good condition whilst the leather sweatband is in poor condition with some separation but with all segments present.
A rare and very early example of the type.
