From the same superb Long Range Desert Group Collection is this Cairo made officer’s Field Service Cap with tailor’s label to John Jones & Co (Egypt) Ltd. – The English Tailors, Cairo.
I had no idea that British tailors had established themselves in Egypt, but it does of course make perfect sense, not only to accommodate the needs of the British forces but also the pre war ex patriate community.
Of primary importance is the L.R.D.G. cap Badge. Constructed in bronze, the Badge is in excellent condition and seemingly applied to the cloth prior to the lining having been added, the fixing post and sprung pin evident under the lining.
The Cap itself is very nice. Tailored in Barathea the side flaps are closed by two non maker marked and possibly locally made general service buttons. There are five very small moth holes and a small area of surface nips on the right flap near the front.
An extremely rare and very appealing L.R.D.G. Officer’s Cap.
