A particularly nice example of Single Decal Luftwaffe M40 Helmet.
Showing just the right amount of service use this Q64 with a lot number of 521 retains a good 85% of the original factory blue / grey aluminium oxide rough finish.
The shell is completely without damage. The decal shows loss to one leg of the Swastika, in my opinion resulting from the original factory application process, the legs being notoriously “fiddly” when sliding off the decal sheet and a fault I have seen on numerous Luftwaffe helmets over the years. In fact the leg is simply folded back.
Inside, the helmet is every bit as pleasing. The liner band fits closely to the shell, the leather tongues are soft, without damage and complete with the original drawstring. There is a size stamp 57 and hand written initials.
The chinstrap shows surface wear and remains supple and free from breaks.
