Air Raid Warden's Gas attack Warning Rattle

Air Raid Warden's Gas attack Warning Rattle

Code: 10446

SOLD

A very good example of an Air Raid Precautions gas Rattle, constructed in, I believe, oak and in fully functional condition.
Larger in size than those used in the trenches in WW1, this piece is undated but almost certainly dates from WW2 or before.
During training, wardens were instructed on how to respond to a gas attack. If poisonous gas was released, wardens were told to sound a hand rattle to alert people to stay indoors or put on their gas masks.
A good and iconic piece of WW2 home front memorabilia.
