WW1 Cap to an Officer in The Machine Gun Corps made by Tresse & Co. London and retailed by Andersons & Sons, Military Outfitters, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Constructed in Khaki gabardine, the Cap certainly gives the impression of having been field used.

Overall, the Cap is rather dusty but with the brim free from moth. The Machine Gun Corps Badge appears to be bronze and has a heavy patina, as do both chinstrap buttons. The chinstrap itself is brown leather and roughly 7mm wide. Immediately below the Corps Badge is an area of slight distress which I believe is the result of either movement of the badge over the years or moth. This is completely obscured by the chinstrap.

Inside, the Cap shows evidence of extensive use. The cloth fold over to the peak has lost about two thirds of the stitching and the sweatband, whilst complete has become completely unstitched from the headband. These faults could be rectified by a skilled hatter.
