A lightweight summer helmet with improved noise reduction ear telephone receptacles, introduced as the standard summer or light weight for the Army Air Force and Navy on April 23, 1943. It was the first flying helmet designed under the joint Army/Navy procurement program 23.

Made of khaki lightweight fabric with built-in ear telephone mounts of black rubber with a leather doe-skin lined chinstrap and suede backed peak.
