Perhaps the most iconic from the golden age of British post war aircraft design, the English Electric Lightning must rank as the most admired.

It flew first in 1954, went supersonic on its 3rd flight (first British aircraft to do so in level flight) and obtained the  world speed record in 1957 then Mach 2 in 1958. It’s 'Vertical take-off” to 30,000ft in 2 minutes was amazing and it was capable of exceed Mach 1 in the climb. It was a world beater and remained in service for three decades.

This early metal display mode has a wingspan of 220mm and a fuselage length of 300mm including the nose cone. It does show the effects of time with chips to the paintwork and slight damage to the right wing tip, nevertheless,it displays beautifully.
