A very nice WW2 Officer’s Cap with its original detachable White Summer Cover in situ.

This standard Royal Navy Officer's Cap is part of a grouping all to the same man who was a Fleet Air Arm pilot in WW2. I have reluctantly decided to break up the grouping and sell the items individually as it is unclear what the name of the original officer was.

Made of very dark blue wool, this Cap is in a good wartime configuration. This shown by the officer’s cap badge to the front being the wartime economy version made of metal not bullion, and the cap itself equally being a wartime economy version with no padding to the upper sides or crown, and the lining there being very basic cotton. The lining material to the top has now started to fragment and is missing in places, this however very usefully enables the underside to the crown to be viewed, it can be seen there that the dark blue wool has been waterproofed by having paste applied to the inside. This is a classic wartime feature which is also seen to the inside of WW2 wool formation signs.

The Cap has its original detachable White Summer Cover still in situ. It is not sewn to the cap, however I have not removed it as it has been in place since WW2 and bedded in very nicely, this giving the Cap a classic wartime “wide crown” shape. In my experience when such long applied Covers are removed for inspection it is nearly impossible to get them to bed in again the way they were.

The leather sweatband is complete and shows a London maker’s manufacture’s mark. Size is a usefully large 7 3/8.

It is in very good service condition overall with no moth that I can see..

A lovely wartime Royal Navy Officer’s Cap.
