1902 dated German S98aA With Wrap Around Grip

SOLD

A very good example of a German S98 nA (neu Art) Bayonet, sadly missing its scabbard.

The Bayonet itself is in very good condition, the pommel  with two inspection stamps, the wood grip being the early wrap around one piece type, free from damage, the design distinguishing them from the later pattern with a two part grip.

The cross guard is again free from damage and carries Regimental markings to the 104th Infantry Regiment (5th Royal Saxon)

The blade measures a little over 520mm, is free from damage but with darkening and light surface rust patches, the ricasso marked to RM ( Rheinische Metallwaaren-und Maschinenfabrik) Sommerda. The upper edge carries the Cypher of King Alfred of Saxony, the date 02 and yet another inspection stamp.

A nice example of an uncommon Bayonet.
