Reconnaissance Corps Beret

Reconnaissance Corps Beret

Code: 55387

SOLD

A 1945 dated Reconnaissance Corps Beret by Beret Industries Ltd.

Constructed in Khaki wool the Beret is trimmed with brown leather and has two enameled eyelets with a hand sewn brown leather protecting strip inside. The markings remain clear and a WD stamp is visible on the lining at the side.

There is a nice officer’s quality Reconnaissance Corps badge with two posts and a sprung pin. Condition is generally good with some minor moth damage. In addition, there is a repaired vertical split near the bow at the back of about 45mm.

During 1944 the Reconnaissance Corps changed to a black Beret to reflect the change in their role but it not uncommon to see khaki Berets still in use. In this case it looks like an officer acquired one to reflect his pride as an old hand.
