1918 Dated Soft Trench Cap - Duke of Wellington's Regiment.

Code: 56646

SOLD

A late WW1 British Army Soft Trench Cap as issued to non-Scottish enlisted men in the British Army.

This example is in excellent condition and shows no sign of having actually been worn, an interesting and rather attractive feature being a variation in the colour to the gabardine top panel.

The thin brown leather chinstrap is secured either side by a single darkened leather capped general service button with the soft peak or visor sitting below. The Cap badge is that of The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) which was a line infantry regiment of the British Army, forming part of the King's Division.

Inside, the Cap is fully lined with a black oil cloth, date stamped 1918 and 6 5/8.

These Caps differed from the mid-war pattern by being made of gabardine cloth, the earlier type made of serge cloth. They were not issued post war when the army reverted to serge caps.

It would be quite impossible to upgrade this outstanding Trench Cap.
