1941 Dated RAF Irvin Jacket. Size 4

An exceptionally nice example of a 1941 (so called) Irvin Jacket in a good size 4.

The jacket is in very good condition and retains all its original colour . There is wear at each shoulder I believe from decades on a coat hanger and the right shoulder has had a leather patch added to the inside of the sleeve to secure the split caused by the hanger .The leather remains soft and appears to have been cared for with a sympathetic leather cream. There is no further damage or repairs

Of particular interest is the colour of the seam covers (tapes) which are of a far darker brown that the Jacket itself giving a pleasant if unusual contrast. There is one cross seam to the front, one at the back and one around each sleeve near the elbow.

All zips operate perfectly, the runners with pulls by DOT and with an AM stamp. All three have their leather tabs. The elastic adjustment strap is in place under the collar.

Inside, the dense fur is a golden brown, without loss and with just very light wear at each cuff trim. The all important AM marked label is in place, Size 4 Height 5’8” – 5’9”, Breast 36”- 38”, Waist 32” – 34” and named twice, F/O Hockney and (I think) J. McFarlane.

Although made for a heavily clothed 36” – 38” chest the exterior armpit to armpit measurement is 42”. With normal clothing I believe the Jacket would be perfect for a 38” chest, just possibly 40”.

A lovely jacket and one which would prove difficult to upgrade.
