An absolutely superb and virtually mint condition Luftwaffe Generalleutnant’s Service Tunic (Dienstbluse) formerly the property of Wolfgang Jul. Gust. Weese who died in 1961.
Beautifully tailored a fine quality soft blue-grey wool with a grey silk-rayon blend interior lining, there are four pleated pockets, each closed by a pebbled gold gilt button.
The front is closed with four pebbled gold gilt metal buttons and features a War Merit 2nd Class Cross ribbon to the top button hole. All buttons are matching and marked by the manufacturer: F. W. Assmann & Sohne of Lüdenscheid.
The French style cuffs are held securely in place by a two pieces of stitching, one to the front and rear of each sleeve.
To the right breast is a stitched on fine quality hand embroidered gold bullion 2nd pattern Luftwaffe General’s eagle on a blue grey wool backing.
The collar features two machine stitched on Generalleutnant rank collar tabs constructed of buckram base, covered in a white wool with hand embroidered gold bullion piping that features two gulls surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath.
The “sew on” type Generalleutnant rank shoulder boards feature a white wool base with an interwoven silver and gold bullion Russian Braid thread underneath a silvered pip and gilded metal button.
Above the top left pocket are five stitched loops with six more on/beneath the left pocket. The top five secure the nine piece ribbon bar ( included) which features, from left to right; Imperial 2nd Class Iron Cross, Prussian Order of the Crown with Swords, Baden Order of the Zähringer Lion with the Crown and Swords, Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords, Luftwaffe 4 and 12 Year Long Service, Anschluss Commemorative Medal, Sudetenland Commemorative Medal and the Memel Commemorative Medal.
The interior has a smooth rayon blend material, met at the arms by a white and grey pinstripe liner. Below the hang loop is the tailors tag which reads: “Karl Fuchs Karlsruhe Kaiserstr. 180”. There is one interior dagger hanger and clip and one pocket, that retains the attributed tag to the interior, which reads: “Herr: Generalleutnant Wolfgang Weese No: 156 Datum 06.04.44 (6th of April 1944)”.
The tunic measures approximately 48 cm across the shoulders, a 64 cm sleeve length and 70 cm to the spine.
The picture of Generalleutnant Weese is not included and can be found on the internet, the picture itself taken prior to his promotion to Generalleutnant on 1st April 1943.
The final pictures show the awards correct for this Tunic when worn by Weese. The Imperial Pilot’s Badge, the WW1 Iron Cross First Class and the WW2 Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge. THESE THREE AWARDS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE but may be available by separate negotiation to the buyer of the Tunic. Shirt and tie are not original but can be included without charge for display purposes.
Overall condition is excellent and shows really no signs of having been worn, Weese in fact retiring at the end of April 1944. There is absolutely no moth or other damage, the cloth retaining its original full colour.
