After the end of World War Two, the air-force, like the other services was rapidly downsized and the RAF Police was drastically reduced in size. With the cold war and the armed conflicts breaking out in many former colonies, authority was given for the recruitment of local auxiliaries to provide security at RAF bases in several countries. Starting in Singapore, more soon followed in the middle east and far east as well as Cyprus and Germany.

The cap badge can be seen on various forms of headgear including the beret, sun helmet and turban. In 1953 the original Kings Crown version of the badge was replaced by a new Queens Crown version.

Formerly part of the Gordon Williamson collection
