British Cavalry Troopers 1908 Pattern Sword. 6th Dragoon Guards

British Cavalry Troopers 1908 Pattern Sword. 6th Dragoon Guards

Code: 56409

SOLD

A fine example of a British Cavalry Troopers 1908 Pattern Sword, complete with Scabbard and Spare Horse Shoe Saddle Fitting.

The Blade is bright, without damage and the correct length at a little over 35”. The Ricasso carries the date 3, 15 (March 1915), the retailer’s mark SB &N Ltd, a War Department arrow and various inspection stamps. Along the upper edge  the pattern stamp, P08 and 6 DG (6th Dragoon Guards) remain clear. The leather buffer is in place.

The Guard is a sheet steel bowl with a beaded edge and slit for the Sword knot, brush applied with a Khaki paint and again free from damage.

The grip is either a hard rubber or early form of plastic, well formed with a thump recess and steel pommel.

The scabbard is profusely stamped along its upper edge and appears to be 1916 dated and constructed in sheet steel and wood with dual loops below the throat to allow it to drop into the saddle fitting. As with the guard, the Scabbard has a brush applied Khaki paint.

Finally, the saddle fitting is again in very good condition with all stitching firm and intact and the maker’s stamp, A & Co. 1918
