A 1943 dated german M31 Canteen and Cup which appears to be the first year the leather strap was replaced by one made of synthetic cotton as we have here.
The aluminium bottle is contained in a felt cover secured by three press fasteners. The cover is without damage but the press fasteners have rusted and I am reluctant to force them open. The 43 dated sheet metal cup is very good but the fittings on the strap have surface rust, in addition the leather tap at the base has a split half way through.
Despite its deficiencies the canteen displays very well.
