An excellent example of a Kriegsmarine enlisted man’s Bordmutze (side cap) in a navy blue wool / rayon mix, completely free from moth or other damage.
The most obvious point of interest is the pin backed Olympic rings traditions badge on the left side. The pin is of German manufacture and carries part of the German "Registerd stamp" , Ges Gesch on the reverse along with C of CP(the P no longer visible) of the maker Carl Poellath. It is impossible to say if it has always been with the cap without solid provenance although of all the U-Boat traditions badges, the Olympic rings were the most used and this traditions badge is undoubtably original and of the correct period.
1936 was the year of the Berlin Olympics, and naval officers who joined the Kriegsmarine that year chose the rings as their emblem. 23 U-boats displayed this emblem

The insignia is the classic hand applied BeVo type, the eagle in a golden thread on a blue rayon backing. The cockade is hand stitched into place.
Inside, the blue rayon lining shows only slight sweat staining front and back.
