A scarce variant of the German Army Canteen (or Water Bottle) produced only from September 1944 to the end of the war.
The lack of the previously high quality materials used is evident in these late Canteens. The bottle itself is now made in a red lacquered steel with a metal screw cap and the felt cover which helped keep the contents cool is now a lightweight cloth closed by three press fasteners. The leather fittings are still of a high quality, but the drinking cup is now in metal plate rather than aluminium, this example stamped ESB43.
Overall condition is very good condition with some light staining to the cloth cover from the steel bottle.
