A very nice example of a Luftwaffe NCO’s White Topped Peaked or Visor cap in a size 56.
The Cap is undated but certain features indicate it is of pre 1936 construction. The peak or visor is black leather with a black underside, a 1936 order dictating a green underside. The removable white cotton top is the waffle pattern with the early droop tail eagle attached with prongs allowing it to be detached when the cover is washed.
The Cap frame retains the vertical stiffener to hold the cover in place with the aid of two press fasteners. The back mohair hatband is piped top and bottom with the yellow waffenfarbe of the flying branch and the winged cockade and eagle are aluminium. Below the cockade sits the leather chinstrap, the buckles with slightly rounded edges.
Inside, the leather sweatband has slight mottling from historic moisture or perspiration whilst the brow is ventilated over the additional padding known as “Stirndruckfrei” which is noted on the diamond shaped celluloid sweat shield.
Overall condition is very good, the only point of note being some loss to the stitching securing the sweatband and peak. Both however remain secure and in place.
