RAF Irvin Jacket. 40

RAF Irvin Jacket. 40" Chest With Spitfire, Typhoon, Hurricane History

Code: 56502

SOLD

A particularly nice example of a so called Irvin Jacket issued to WG Creevy who flew some 19 types of aircraft during the war including Spitfires, Mustangs, Hurricanes and Typhoons. He was latterly with 268 Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron where he was flying a Typhoon during operations against the retreating German army at the Falaise Gap.

I have attached an image of the last two pages of his Log Book showing his service but I do not have the Log Book which was donated to the RAF Museum by his family. I do however have a complete copy on WeTransfer which I will send to the buyer only.

The Jacket itself is in very good condition. Ideal for a clothed 40” chest it measures 22” from armpit to armpit (44 inch chest) 25” from shoulder to cuff and 25” from neck seam to skirt.

All three zips are original to the Jacket. They operate  perfectly the front zip with a DOT runner, the left sleeve also with a DOT runner and leather tab, the right sleeve with a unmarked pull and leather tab.

At the neck the closure strap and rings are in place as is the elastic strap beneath the collar. The leather remains supple and completely free from rips or repairs and with all stitch firm and intact.

Inside, the fur is excellent with just a small amount of wear at the cuffs.
