1950s RAF Cold Weather Flying Overall Jacket Mk1

1950s RAF Cold Weather Flying Overall Jacket Mk1

Code: 56770

SOLD

A very good example of the now rare RAF Cold Weather Flying Overall Jacket Mk1, originally issued as a two piece suit to aircrews from the early 1950’s and seeing service on such venerable types as those of V Force. The term “Overall” refers the Jacket being used in conjunction with a pair of matching trousers which are not part of this listing.

The windproof Jacket is lined with a woollen material and has the appearance of a Parka with a hood and drawstring with wooden toggles. Closure is by a single full length Aero zip with a wind flap over, secured by five buttons.  There is a flapped and buttoned map pocket on the left breast and two diagonal hip pockets again with flaps and buttons.

At the waist is an adjustable belt with friction buckle and each cuff is closed with a single button one of which is missing. The sleeves are of the pivot type.

When worn without the trousers the flap at the back is  pulled between the legs to button to the front of the Jacket.

Issued in sizes 1-8 this is a size 7 shown on the original small label which remains in place. Overall condition is good with each cuff worn and with a number of machine sewn repairs which I have tried to show.

A rare survivor from the early cold war era.
