A very good example of a 1941 dated First Pattern olive green Tropical Tunic absolutely in keeping with those worn by the first of the Afrika Korps soldiers arriving in North Afrika.
Originally acquired via the Wehrmacht Awards Forum where the critical eyes felt that although some of the insignia had been re applied, all agreed that this was quite common at the time, I assume insignia being applied in field but I do feel that this applies most certainly to the eagle at least. Nevertheless, all insignia is original.
Constructed in an olive green ribbed cotton, the Tunic has four patched, flapped and pleated pockets, each closed by a pebbled button. Front closure is by a single row of five pebbled buttons secured, as with all the buttons by the original S clips. Each cuff is adjusted by two dished zinc buttons.
The collar is of the lay flat style, trimmed with silver tresse and with the Litzen (collar tabs) hand applied. Above the right breast pocket is a BeVo weave style machine embroidered eagle, hand re applied.
The stitched in shoulder straps are to an Oberfeldwebel in Beobachtungsabteilung 30 (30th Reconnaissance Battalion), the eyes and ears of the Artillery.
Inside, the Tunic is unlined, well stamped and showing a chest size of 36”. The dressings pocket carries the maker’s name.
Overall condition is very good. There is wear to the right cuff, a small hole on the left sleeve and slight moth to the red waffenfarbe on the shoulder straps.
A rare and desirable Afrika Korps Tunic.
