A good service used example of the rare 1908 Pattern Webbing Entrenching Tool Head Carrier, desirably dated 1917.
After the Helve Carrier, the Entrenching Tool Head Carrier is well known to be the next most difficult item of 1908 Equipment to obtain, the difficulty encountered due to both elements being withdrawn from the 1908 Webbing Equipment post war and discarded, this since entrenching tools were no longer used in that period.
The 1908 Head Carrier here is complete, undamaged and service blancoed in classic “apple” green. Rather nicely to the inside near the date the soldier has applied his name, though this is a little faded now. Given its 1917 manufacture the closure mechanism is naturally the tab and buckle type introduced in 1916. Prior to that date the closure mechanism on these was the tab and press stud type.
A rare piece of 1908 Webbing Equipment in good condition.
