Discussed on the German Helmets Walhalla forum some years ago where this helmet met with favourable comments and described as “a rare Helmet”, Double decal M40’s are something of an enigma.
This Q62 is in well service worn condition, and the condition of each decal leaves no doubt they are original to the Helmet. Although I had thought the eagle to have perhaps been Kriegsmarine, further recent discussion GHW has decided it to be a toned Heer.
The shell is without damage but with considerable loss to the finish, the inside flare showing a lot number of what appears to be DN137.
The liner is very good, with all tongues free from damage, the leather still supple. There is no drawstring.
The chinstrap is present and strong with an aluminium buckle but considerably shortened.
A very rare helmet.
