An excellent condition and now quite scarce pre war Police motorcycle crash helmet in black leather for Metropolitan or city Police.
Manufactured by the premier headwear company Robert Lubstein this helmet is constructed of a fibre shell covered in smooth polished leather. A leather covered padded protective "bumper" runs horizontally around the helmet with a meshed ventilation hole to each side of the shell.
A stiff leather peak or visor is stitched to the front.
Above the visor is fitted the correct large aluminium Police eagle and wreath.
Two field grey wool backed leather ear protectors extend down under the chin and are secured in place by the chinstrap. Each flap has a stitched ear hole.
One small moth hole in the wool which I have highlighted.
The ear flaps are attached to an elasticated leather neck protector with 4 ventilation grommets.
The leather chinstrap is complete with the original early roller buckle.
One side of the chinstrap that secures to the liner is showing some age and cracking but is still strong.
The tan leather liner is in very good condition with no damage and still retains the original leather drawstring. Minor sweat staining to the front of the liner.
It is embossed with the stylised ErEl and helmet logo.
The interior has a Robert Lubstein embroidered manufacturer tag which indicates the helmet is a Sonderklasse and is also Ges.Gesch and D.R.G.M marked.
Overall a very collectable and rather scarce example of early III Reich headgear.
PLEASE NOTE. The wooden display stand is not included
