Early or Pre War RAF Officer's Cap in Near New Condition

Early or Pre War RAF Officer's Cap in Near New Condition

Code: 56422

SOLD

Without doubt the finest early war RAF Officer’s Cap I have ever encountered. Made by the well known maker Vero & Co, London this is the classic early or pre war saucer shape with large green backed peak or visor.

The brim joins body with an unpiped seam and the Cap band itself has been constructed without stiffener, a feature I have seen before on high quality private purchase Caps, making for a soft comfortable fit.

The mohair hat band is in place with the most superb hand embroidered cap badge which remains bright and as new in appearance, the black wool backing cut in a circular shape. Below the hat band sits the narrow patent leather chinstrap.

Inside, the Cap is no less impressive. The deep leather sweatband has a velvet brow piece and is in excellent condition, the name F/O R.C. Ralph and I think 105946 hand written at the front. The lining is blue grey quilted silk or rayon in a diamond pattern with Vero’s details visible below the undamaged circular celluloid protector.

It would not be possible to upgrade this outstanding example which is free from moth or other signs of damage or wear. I do not guarantee sizes for historical items but this is approximately a size 57cms
