Admiral Donitz car Pennant

Admiral Donitz car Pennant

Code: 56794

£2,300.00 Approx $2885.82, €2686.92, £2300

An excellent example of the personal Car Pennant flown from the wing or fender of any vehicle in which Admiral Karl Donitz was travelling. It was I suspect carried in store at every port or station to cover the eventuality of Donitz arriving for whatever purpose without his own car. Nevertheless a very rare item.

The Flag or Pennant is made of wool bunting with a cotton hoist and is machine sewn with the design printed onto the surface. It has a white field, bearing a black iron cross on which is superimposed two crossed admiral's batons and an eagle holding the Swastika. Clips are attached to the hoist end which also bears a Kriegsmarine property stamp.

Measuring approximately 310mm x 280mm it is overall very good condition with light moth nips perhaps most obvious in the lower right hand corner.

A WW1 U Boat officer Donitz was to become the last Fuhrer of Germany and it was he who announced Hitler’s death in a broadcast from the Aviso Grille, floating headquarters of U Boats North sea.
