British Coldstreams Guards Drum Major’s Tunic dated 1999
A lovely quality Coldstream Guards Drum Major’s Tunic dating to 1999.
In the British Army a Drum Major is the individual leading a regimental band. It is an appointment on top of a military rank. Drum Majors utilize a ceremonial mace for giving commands while marching, this much in evidence during the recent coronation ceremonies of King Charles III.
The scarlet tunic has gold braid applied throughout as befitting its unique ceremonial appointment. To the collar on each side are the bullion garter star badge of the Coldstream Guards, with then the “staybrite" buttons applied in pairs to again denote the Coldstream Guards, these being the 2nd Foot Guards. The lowest button is not present as this is where the belt is worn.
To the lower right sleeve are four additional inverted bullion chevron to show the original owner’s rank. On the inside there is a label to show this Drum Major’s Tunic was issued to “S.Jackson” of the Coldstream Guards. The label also shows a 1999 contract date.
The tunics epaulettes are missing, other than that overall condition is very good with minor marks on both sleeves. The lining has some staining and “D/Major” written in felt tip pen. The lining equally bears the point to point broad arrow marking to show the tunic has been officially sold out of service
