A quite beautiful example of a Kreigsmarine ships clock by Kieninger & Obergfell. Standard on all Kriegsmarine vessels, including U Boats, and some shore establishments, these clocks have a brass case, originally painted black.

The clock runs perfectly and keeps very good time. It will arrive in good working condition but as with any vintage mechanical Clocks, I am unable to offer a long-term guarantee as all old clocks will need to be serviced from time to time.

The dial is in excellent condition. All markings are of course guaranteed original. The original black paint was removed during the post war years as is usually the case, but the present owner has had it professionally repainted to a very high standard, and it now appears as it would have done during service.

The case back carries the serial number 12092, the last two digits 92 appearing on the hinge and lock of the glass opening window, exactly as we would hope to see.

The clock is without damage and with the three fitting lugs in place.

The Clock was purchased at auction some years ago, the auctioneers stating at that time that it had been taken from a Kriegsmarine Signal Station on the Hook of Holland in October 1944 by a member of No. 4 Commando. Whilst the history cannot be corroborated, it is a fact that No 4 Commando were active in that area during that time, and the lack of either “N” (North Sea) or “O” (Ostsee) markings on the dial, is now thought to suggest use in a shore establishment.

I am a vocal critic of those who sell fakes of these clocks at some of the fairs around the UK and on eBay, most of which originate from a Glaswegian fraudster living in Edinburgh. He often appears a Newark and other fairs.

Naturally this example is guaranteed absolutely original and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity if required.
