A quite beautiful example of a Kriegsmarine NCO and Officer Candidates Peaked or Visor Cap, the Blau Schirmmutze.
Overall condition can only be described as near excellent and apart from the presence of the owner’s name tape, appears unissued.
Following the pattern of these Caps, the brim features the desirable wider unpadded cut, in this case constructed in a smooth Doeskin material which retains its original colour and is completely free from damage.
The hat band is in black mohair with a Kriegsmarine button at either side securing the black leather chinstrap, all again in excellent condition.
Insignia is gilded aluminium, the cockade mounted on a cloth backing and hand applied to the cap, the gilding without loss.
These Caps have a black Vulkanfibre peak or visor trimmed with a leather edging secured by a double row of stitches, all again in excellent condition.
Inside, the leather sweatband shows no signs of wear and sits in place over the black celluloid stiffener. The blue rayon lining is without damage or wear, the diamond sweat shield with just one very minor split at one edge and with the original owner’s name tape in place in the sleeve. It shows the name Werdnig who joined the North Sea Fleet as an engineer in 1939.
A very large size of about 59 cms. it would be impossible to upgrade this example.
