Formerly part of the Gordon Williamson collection is this non maker mark but known variant of the Krim Shield listed in the Krim Shield book as being by Sascha Weber.
A very sharply executed design with great detail and a lovely dark bronze finish. All four prongs are intact and there is no sign of a backing plate or cloth having been fitted.
Shields could be purchased through retail outlets with or with no backing, with metal backing plate only, or with backing plate and backing cloth. Generally, shields which have had backing removed at some point will show signs of the pins being twisted or bent as the backing is removed. Examples with pins still neatly folded as I have here are most likely to have been undisturbed since manufacture.
