A well used but very displayable Jacket which would have formed part of the two piece “Kanal” Cloth Flight Suit.
Intended for flight over land and manufactured in a blue/grey cotton cloth, the jacket is fully lined in fleece, including the collar. It is closed at the front with a vertical zip and two press fasteners. In my opinion the Zip has been replaced but interestingly online research revealed that this zip manufacturer, Wico of Czechoslovakia did actually produce zips for Luftwaffe flying clothing so perhaps this is a period replacement.
The collar can be turned up for greater warmth and a closure strap is in place intended to loop through a ring on the opposite collar then back to secure with press fasteners.
There is an open breast pocket on the left breast and two lower pockets closed by means of a strap and press fastener. Each sleeve has a zip with Rapid pulls and leather tabs. Both zips are undamaged but have not been opened for many years. I have freed one with a little bee’s wax, the other is still reluctant to move but I am sure will do with ongoing effort. At the base of each zip is a strap and press fastener but both male press fasteners have been partially pulled through the cloth so great care must be taken when opening the strap.
On the right breast is a machine embroidered eagle, each sleeve with the rank gulls of a feldwebel.
Inside, the fleece is in overall very good condition with some minor loss at the collar. At the lower front is an adjusting tape with bears an Rb number but the two friction buckles which again would have provided the adjustment are missing.
Overall a good Jacket, free from rips or significant damage other than wear
