Although showing an amount of surface rust speckling this scarce ex double decal Kriegsmarine M35 ET66 helmet is completely unmolested and would be significantly enhanced by the applicated of a light wax.
The shell is without damage and with the Kriegsmarine eagle clearly demonstrating the double layer construction which it seems makes them so vulnerable to flaking. Just visible on the right side is the outline of the national colours decal which the Kriegsmarine seemed so efficient in removing in accordance with orders.
Inside, the rim again shows surface rust which leads me to think this may have been a battlefield pick up. The rim is stamped ET66 4423 dating it to a production run in September 1939 with the reinforced liner band. The leather tongues remain supple but stitching to the rear seam has gone. Named to E Kock
The chinstrap is unmarked but remains supple and strong with one minor split.
A true Kriegsmarine helmet when so many advertise toned Heer decals as Kriegsmarine.
