Maintenance Log and Document Spitfire M1X Battle of Britain Film

Code: 56554

An excellent collection of original documents relating to MK 1X, Spitfire TE308 which was delivered to the RAF on June 9th 1945 and remained in storage until 1950 when the aircraft was converted to a two seater trainer for the Irish Air Corps as serial number 163.

Shortly after delivery to the IAC the aircraft experienced a wheels up landing  in July 1951 which is recorded in the aircraft log which forms part of the collection. Following a further incident in August 1961 TE308 was relegated to become an instructional airframe until she returned to UK as G-AWGB in April 1968. It was at that point that she obtained her moment of glory and became one of the fleet of Spitfires being prepared for filming of the “THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN” feature film. Now a two seater she was flown from the rear seat during the filming with camera equipment fitted in the front cockpit.

After crossing the Atlantic in various ownerships the Aircraft returned to the UK 2019  and now flies from Biggin Hill in RAAF colours.

The collection comprises:

The IAC Airframe Log Book from 1951 -1961 in very good condition.

Certificate of Registration of Aircraft for G-AWGB dated April 1968.

Board of Trade ANO Permit to Fly dated May 1968 with covering letter.

Letter from Customs and Excise date June 1968

2 Letters from Simpsons Aeroservices dated June 1968 regarding the import from Ireland.

A Certificate of Airworthiness dated August 1968 and making specific reference to its roll in the making of the “BATTLE OF BRITAIN “ film.

A unique archive to a surviving Spitfire.
