A good but well used example of an early M33 SS dagger by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen, the so called "large oval" by collectors.
Considered to be of the earliest run of SS daggers they are thought to have been produced in February 1934 and are highly sought after.
The dyed black wood grip is exhibiting some age and wear, with the original brown wood colour showing in places. The solid nickel-silver eagle and swastika is crisp with only minor wear, although it does show 80 odd years of gunk and old polish in the recess surrounding the national emblem.
The SS button has some wear to the enamelling and also slightly to the silver finish on the runes, this showing the copper underneath.
Minor depressions to the grip but nothing major as regard to cracks or chips.
Solid nickel crossguards with the reverse of the lower one stamped with the Roman numeral I representing SS-Gruppe District I (East)
The blade is in fair to good condition with no edge nicks or other major damage and while still bright there are draw marks on the obverse/reverse of the blade .
It has a portion of original crossgraining still evident albeit with some spotting and aging/moisture ingress damage around the trademark.
The TD is the early large double oval smooth tailed variant .
The Meine Ehre Heist Treue motto retains a good portion of the original factory burnishing but is slightly worn down the blade spine from years of the blade being drawn and re-sheathed.
The black anodised scabbard is in fair to good condition again showing minor age and going brown in some places.
There are two depressions to the obverse shell but non to the reverse. The upper solid nickel fittings are in good condition with both original screws in place along with the hanger ring.
There is a small dent to the ball on the chape and a pinhead type depression to the reverse but no splits, again retaining both screws.
While not a mint example it is a rare type dagger that displays very well with its used condition reflected in the price.
