A very nice set Royal Flying Corps Mess Dress Wings in the scarcer simplified WW1 configuration. Hollow stamped in bronze these Wings are similar in style to their early war full size bronze Service Dress counterpart however they measure only 56 mm across.
Complete with fixing posts and sprung pin the Wings are in very good condition with a slight bend to the right wing beyond the fixing post.
Prior to WW1 RFC Mess Dress Wings were of ornate die cast manufacture and made of gilt. Following the outbreak of war this costly manufacturing process was soon abandoned and RFC Mess Wings were simply stamped out in bronze as seen here. This wartime simplified version of the RFC Mess Dress Wings was naturally made in far fewer numbers than its pre war gilt equivalent due to Mess Dress itself often being set aside under wartime conditions, this making this simplified version of the RFC Mess Dress Wings actually rather scarce. Indeed, this is the first such RFC Wings I have been able to offer.
