Second Pattern German S98/05 Bayonet with Leather Scabbard. 1915

Second Pattern German S98/05 Bayonet with Leather Scabbard. 1915

Code: 55932

SOLD

Second pattern S98/05 Bayonet, known as the n/A (neuer Art = newer model). The second pattern lacked the first pattern's vestigial muzzle ring (or 'ears') and incorporated a flashguard.

Complete with its original and rarer early leather scabbard the Bayonet is in very good condition. The pommel has two inspection stamps with the release button operating perfectly. The two part walnut grips are very good with only slight bruising. The cross guard is stamped 59 and without regimental markings.

The blade is without damage, the ricasso marked to Alex Coppel the upper edge with the cypher of King Wilhelm11 of Wuttenberg and a 15 date.

The rare leather scabbard is very good condition with all leather intact but with light surface rust to the fittings the reverse stamped A.J.A.3.56 When pushed fully home into the scabbard about 3mm of the ricasso remains exposed.

A very nice early WW1 German Butcher Bayonet
