A fine example of Single Decal Army M40 Helmet in a large size 66
The shell retains most of a brush applied field grey period repaint over the granulated factory finish, the decal carefully retained during the process. Not immediately noticeable is a 2.5cm diagonal strike to the lower edge of the shell immediately below the decal causing a slight distortion to the rim which I have tried to show in the images. The decal has slight loss which again I have shown in the images but I would still class it as very good and in keeping the service wear of the helmet overall.
Inside the rim is stamped ET66 with partially discernible lot number of ?355
The liner band fits nicely to the shell and has not been distorted by any curious collector trying to find a date. The leather liner tongues are without damage, stamped 58 and with their original drawstring.
The chinstrap is an anomaly. Although not a normal strap I feel confident it is original to the helmet and perhaps a field made replacement.
Overall a very nice Helmet with slight battle damage.
