WW1 British Machine Gunners Waistcoat / Vest intended for use during the transportation of the heavy equipment where raised sections prevented straps from slipping off.
Constructed in the same heavy serge wool as the uniforms it has suede shoulder panels for extra protection from the weight when carrying the Vickers equipment but also from the recoil of such weapons as the Lewis gun.
Closed at the front by three brass general service buttons this example is in unissued condition with one small moth hole and wear at the back on the left side.
One of a number discovered some years ago most having now found their way into collections and becoming harder to find.
