An interesting WW1 German Horse Bit to the transport section of the elite 3rd (2nd East Prussian) Grenadier Regiment who fought in the 1st German Army Corps.
The Horse Bit is made of the usual very sturdy steel throughout with hooks and rings at each end for leather strapping. Rather nicely however, to each side of the central mouth piece there is lovely large brass button bearing 3rd Grenadier’s regimental cypher of “FW” for King Frederick William the First of Prussia, “The Soldier King”, this the regiment’s honorific historic Prussian Monarch.
One of the steel arms on the Horse Bit bears an “8k” marking showing this Bit is from the 3rd Grenadier Regiment’s 8th Company, and below that marking there is a “2” stamped meaning this particular Horse Bit belonged to the 2nd Wagon within the 8th Company.
The Horse Bit is in good service used condition overall with no damage.
