WW2 Italian Camouflaged Helmet

WW2 Italian Camouflaged Helmet

Code: 56029

SOLD

A very good and rather rare M33 WW2 Italian army camouflaged Helmet.

The shell is completely without damage and period painted by brush with a heavy mix granulated brown paint with green patches.

Inside, the liner is very good and size marked 56 by perforated holes.

Italian helmets are notoriously difficult to accurately date. Being of a very advanced design they remained in service well after the end of the war. I have extensively researched the subject and in my view there is little doubt this helmet is of pre 1945 production for a number of reasons:

The chinstrap is green leather and whilst early post was examples were also leather, the post war buckles were roller buckles which this one is not.

The air vents are shallow and secured by two blades or petals on the inside. Later Helmets had multiple petals.

The seam at the back of the liner is a single line of stitching while late war and post war helmets had a reinforced Z pattern stitching.

A very nice wartime example
