RAF 1918 Pattern Officer's Khaki Service Dress Cap

SOLD

Code: 10093

A nice service worn example of the rare 1918 Pattern RAF officer’s Peaked (or visored) Service Dress Cap.
Overall condition is very good although rather dirty, the khaki whipcord material free from the normal moth or other damage although there are some nips and an area of wear to the black Mohair hat band.
The officer’s badge is the later bouillon pattern with a black Melton wool backing and has clearly always been with the cap
The peak is undamaged but shows “pickling” associate with age or heat, the underside finished in green. The leather chinstrap is in place and has clearly remained undisturbed for many years.
Inside, the leather sweatband is intact with all stitching in place. Both sweatband and the swirl pattern cotton lining show extended service use and although free from damage are rather dirty. A Bates label remains stitched in place and is partly discernible.
