Kriegsmarine Vest (Waistcoat)

SOLD

Code: 10504

Perhaps originally intended for wear with the frock coats and Reefer Jackets, these vests became unnecessary as dress regulations required them both garment to be worn buttoned. By 1940 the vest were omitted from the clothing list. They are therefore, quite uncommon.
Made of a heavy blue woollen material, the vest is closed at the front with six gilt fouled anchor buttons each marked with the manufacturerÂ’s name and Reichmarine.
There are three horizontal pockets and a lining of a striped sateen material at the top of which is a clear clothing depot stamp dated 15.9.38.
The back is constructed of two panels made of dark cotton lining material with a belt and claw buckle arrangement to adjust the fit.
Overall condition is very good, with no moth damage or wear, the lining showing some signs of use. There appears to be a panel stitched under the belt on the left side, which I assume was to repair damage.
A very good display piece, not often seen.
