1915 Dated Second pattern S98/05 Butcher Bayonet

SOLD

Code: 10506

Second pattern S98/05 Bayonet, known as the n/A (neuer Art = newer model). The second pattern lacked the first pattern's vestigial muzzle ring (or 'ears') and incorporated a flashguard.
Complete with its original 1915 dated frog, tassel and rarer early leather scabbard the Bayonet is in very good condition. The pommel has two inspection stamps with the release button operating perfectly. The two part walnut grips are very good with only slight bruising. The cross guard is stamped 59 and without regimental markings.
The blade is without damage, the ricasso marked to Alex Coppel the upper edge with the cypher of King Wilhelm11 of Wuttemberg and a 15 date.
The Frog is in very good condition, the belt loop dated 1915. Stitching is firm and intact with one of the four steel rivets missing. The tassel is complete, the knot to the 4th, 8th, or 12th company. Although complete it is somewhat at fault.
The rare leather scabbard is very good condition with all leather intact but with light surface rust to the fittings.
A very nice and complete early WW1 German Butcher Bayonet
