German Fire Service (Feuerwehr) Dress Bayonet (Sidearm)

SOLD

Code: 55441

A quite beautiful example of a WW11 period German Dress bayonet to the Fire service (Feuerwehr) by E. Pack & Sohne, Solingen.

With no attachment point for a rifle, these Bayonets (or perhaps more correctly termed Sidearms) were worn for dress purposes and were either issued or available by private purchase. Since issue pieces tend to carry a property mark I assume this to be a private purchase piece, its recurved crossguard clearly distinguishing it as intended for the Fire Service.

With a blade of just over 24 centimeters in length, this  would have been worn by a Mannschaften of the rank of Brandmeister (Truppenfurher) or below, officer’s having a shorter blade.

Overall condition is excellent. The one piece hilt and crossguard are nickel plated with no loss to the plating and both black plastic grips are perfect. Below the crossguard sits the leather buffer.

The Blade is completely free from damage with the nickel plating showing draw marks only towards the end.

Finally, the scabbard complements the bayonet in condition, free from dents and with original black enamel paint completely without loss
